The Private Sector
Private Referral letters
The Practice has noticed a significant increase in the amount of patients using the facilities of private healthcare providers which may be a result of the increasing waiting times in the NHS. We are happy to support patients in obtaining quicker access to the appropriate speciality. In order to do this you may require a GP referral letter.
A GP referral letter can be written providing:
- If you have consulted with a GP in the Practice regarding this problem
- or, have already been referred to a NHS hospital
If appropriate please complete the form below. Your referral will be available to collect from the surgery within 5 working days.
A GP referral letter cannot be written if:
- you have consulted with another healthcare provider (not the GP) ie, optician, physiotherapist etc, regarding this problem. Please ask them to provide your referral letter.
- you have not consulted with a GP in the Practice regarding your problem. Please contact the Practice to make an appointment with a GP.
Please be aware that your private Consultant will be responsible for ensuring that:
- any medications recommended are used in line with BNF and NI Formulary.
- that any drugs not prescribable by a GP, ie Red/Amber List drugs, medications off license, are issued from a private prescription.
- that any blood tests or other investigations they require, are organised within the private sector and managed/followed up by them.
- that any onward referrals required will be made by them.
- that the patient is aware of follow up requirements.
- that the outcome of the consultations or any subsequent investigations are communicated back to the Practice to ensure your medical record is kept up to date.
